ALEXASADAK.ARTS

I use art as a tool to initiate conversations about mental health, sexual assault, female anatomy, autonomy, and relationships. Through my art, I aim to provide a platform for sharing and understanding experiences that are often considered uncomfortable or taboo. I am a mixed media artist, using items and materials that I believe best fit the emotion and composition. Exploration of materials and the way they can be manipulated creates an environment of constant learning and growing in my art.

Art therapy fosters my creativity and self exploration. At times focusing on the process of creating is more important than the final product allowing me to experiment and flow during my creative process. My art allows me to process my emotions and understand experiences. The creation process is therapeutic, almost cleansing and allowing a new way of processing. My art is a safe space for me and the viewers to explore, converse, and share their voices.

WHERE I’VE BEEN

I am currently pursuing an Associate's degree in Fine Arts at Monroe Community College, where I am expanding my skills in 3D materials, photography, and graphic design. This has been a transformative experience, boosting my confidence and pushing the boundaries of my artistic expression. Before this, I graduated from SUNY Geneseo in 2024, initially majoring in Early Childhood Education before switching to Psychology with a minor in Sociology and Human Development, aiming to become an Art Therapist. During my time at Geneseo, I was involved in a sorority, where I served as a Title IX Coordinator and contributed creatively to projects like sorority banners and rush canvases. My passion for art began in high school, where I honed my skills through various art classes, including AP Drawing, and created a portfolio that explored personal emotions. This early work marked a pivotal moment, as I found my art to be an outlet for expressing and processing my feelings.

WHERE I AM GOING

Looking ahead, I plan to pursue a master's degree in art therapy after I graduate from Monroe Community College, with the goal of combining my passion for art and psychology to help others through creative expression. I look forward to expanding my knowledge and honing my abilities in both art and mental health, ultimately working to make a positive impact on individuals' lives through the healing power of creativity. In addition to my therapeutic aspirations, I am open to working on commissions, collaborations, and offering prints of my work, allowing me to further expand my artistic practice and connect with others. My journey is focused on using art to heal, inspire, and impact others, while continuing to grow both personally and professionally.
